PAQ8F now has a GUI - sort of ;D Put paq-8f.exe or a shortcut on your desktop. Drop a file or folder on it to compress to a .paq8f file. To extract, drop the .paq8f file on it. The output goes in the same folder as the input. It recurses subdirectories, but doesn't preserve attributes like timestamps. To use default compression level, you need 256 MB memory. While it is running, a command window pops up to show progress that you have to close when it's done. It doesn't have a pretty icon, sorry. Maybe next version. cs.fit.edu/~mmahoney/compression/#paq8It's slow, but the compression is pretty good, I think

Hi DOGG,
What's your opinion of PAQ8F?

Hmmm.... that's a 'trick' not a GUI so unfortunately i can't include it in my tests as much as i would like to.
I also can't test it as my datasets are sitting on DVDs in another room.
Thx for letting me know though. Just too busy to do much at this point in time.

So how do you define a GUI? Dropping files on an icon is simple, intuitive, and doesn't require touching the keyboard. IMHO I find GUIs like WinRAR and WinRK complicated and hard to use.

IMO PAQ8F is easier to use than some of the GUI based programs.
It now does multiple files/folders and the drag and drop support is great.
